Mana begins its lifecycle as energy permeating the Void regions of the Cosmos that lay between the Spheres. It first begins to take shape as motion, caused by the rippling waves of force that result from the rotation of the Spheres. Pushed to motion, Mana manifests as Aether; the cosmic wind. The Aetherial winds of mana sweep from Sphere to Sphere across the Cosmos. As such, most Sphere’s are located in the eyes of swirling maelstroms; the combination of many Aethers. Others are like leaves floating of a breeze of one or two Aethers. At any rate, the Spheres are permeated by Mana in the form of Aether. In wrapping around the Sphere’s, however, degrees of Aether become slowed and lodged in both soil and sea. Here Aether manifests itself akin to the planetary matter of the Sphere; becoming Lyrium. When multiple Spheres come together, they typically form a still point between them as their rotation falls into sync. Here stray Aether pools, gathers and solidifies forming a Sphere of pure mana. Known as Boros, these glow brightly with their magic.
Unlike Lyrium, however, Aether – as an unconcerntraited from of Mana – does not mutate those who consume it and in this respect, many Mage’s theorize that there are traces of Aether in most of Deluge’s air. Indeed, most speculate that when the process which forms Lyrium in soil or water is applied to a living creature, that it manifests in the form of Magical abilities.
