Undersea

The ocean floor and the caverns found there, some of which contain air pockets that intrepid races have utilized to their advantage. Deep, dark trenches are also found, and many contain monsters beyond belief. The Undersea is divided into four broad zones:

Undersea

Upper Stratum
This portion of the Undersea is filled with light, warmth and life. Algae, plankton, krill and other tiny creatures are feasted on by countless sea creatures. Reefs and corals are found at this depth of the ocean. It is the Upper Stratum where most surface races dwelling beneath waves are found. This includes the enterprising Dwarves of the Coral Clan, so named for their cities of living coral.

Middle Stratum
Like the Upper, the Middle Stratum is warm, lit and teeming with life. Deeper than the upper, the Middle Stratum largely forms a border land where larger sea creatures – from sharks to whales – come to feed. Here also is found most undersea races that are commonly seen by the surface, such as the Merfolk and Sahuagin.

Twilight Ocean Zone
Where water is always cool and dim; Squid, Shark, whales, dolphins, turtles, jelly fish and other larger sea creatures are found in the Twilight Zone. This is the depth at which most submerged cities exist and it is here that many “deep dwelling” races can be found, such as Alu-tel and Deep Ones.

The Abyss
The darkest, deepest depth of the ocean; locked in eternal inky blackness. The Abyss is home to the most unpleasant races of the undersea, such as Drow and the Kuo-Toa.
